Calculation Error Discovered in Excel 2007
September 27th, 2007 | by Michael |Note: This is not Numbers related specifically, but rather it should be noted that these programs are built by humans, and there will be errors from time to time (even in Apple products).
Forum uber poster JaxJason informed me of this interesting bug in Excel 2007. It seems that when certain formulas are entered that should return the value 65,535 or 65,536, the value displayed is 100,000 (i.e. =77.1*850).
As described on the Microsoft Excel Team Blog, the error presents itself only under certain circumstances, and does not effect the way the value is stored in memory, but rather how it is displayed. Obviously, while the circumstance where this would appear should be rare, it is a serious error, and I would expect a patch very soon.
