This is the 2012 update to the Numbers port of David Seah’s Compact Calendar. It is a “candy bar” style calendar that allows the user to see an entire year at a single glance.

The Compact Calendar is an excellent tool for quick project planning. Here is David’s description:

The Compact Calendar is a simple printable calendar that’s presented as a continuous candy bar of time. It fits on a single page, and is easy to print out for use during planning or group scheduling. Because the weeks are presented as one giant stack of available time, it’s easy to count weeks and figure out what can fit around meetings, holidays, and weekends.

The file has two week styles:
* Week starting on Sunday (traditional)
* Week starting on Monday

I also made some cosmetic adjustments this year to more closely match David’s work. The first day of the month now has a gradient fill, and the months are separated with a blue border.

Compact Calendar 2012 for Numbers ‘08

Description

This is a simple and elegant invoice template for Numbers.

Usage

Usage is fairly straight forward, but you should be aware that there is a hidden column (D) in the Item and Description table. This field is summed in the subtotal cell in the Tax and Totals table. You can additional fields to the Item and Description table, but you will need to adjust your formulas.

Update: When I tested this template in Numbers for the iPad, I found out that it does not support hidden columns. Bummer. However, you can delete the now un-hidden summation column, and re-input a correct formula in the subtotal cell.

Vancouver based illustrator Luc Latulippe has shared a simple monthly expense tracking template for Numbers that he and his partner use to track their spending.

They print the sheet, hang it on the fridge, and then fill it out by hand throughout the month.

It’s not meant to replace proper bookkeeping, but rather to give us an overview of how we’re spending our money.

The GPA Calculator template is included in the iPad version of numbers.

By default, it allows the user to calculate their grade point average over four terms, with four classes per term.

Note: Some features are not available in the Numbers ’08 version. Here are the warnings I received when saving in ’08 format:

• Advanced formatting of axis labels isn’t supported and was removed.
• Decade settings on log charts aren’t supported in the chosen file format. The settings will be removed.
• Referencing row or column ranges that include header or footer cells isn’t supported. The formula references were updated to exclude header and footer cells.
• The function IFERROR isn’t supported and was removed. The last calculated values were retained.

Description:

This is a free weekly time sheet template for Numbers. This sheet allows a small business to track an employees time on a weekly basis. It includes an area for daily meal breaks.

Usage:
Simply enter daily clock-in and clock-out time is h:mm format, and Numbers will take care of the calculations.

Compact Calendar 2012 version now available

This is an update of the Numbers port of David Seah’s compact calendar for 2010.

I first published it in 2007 for the 2008 calendar year and my original description goes for this version as well:

The Compact Calendar allows you to plan projects quickly, while envisioning time in a different manner than other tools such as a Gaant Chart. Specifically, you can look at an entire year at one time. Another nice feature is the different shading for weekends that helps to discourage utilizing those days in the planning process.

The file contains both the Sunday through Saturday and Monday through Sunday formats.

Numbers Compact Calendar 2010

We are introducing a new template today: the Dinner Planner.

Planning your meals ahead can save you both time and money. Trips to the grocery store are much easier because you know exactly what you need.

Planning your meals doesn’t have to be a burden, and that is where the dinner planner template is useful.

The new Grocery List template for Numbers allows a user to quickly put together their weekly shopping list in a convenient format. Pre-entered items are grouped by section.

Additionally, the template includes quantity and price sections, so that the user can budget their purchases before they get to the store.

Lastly, the grocery list includes a check box by each item for marking completed items, as well as a comment section.

** Update: This template requires Numbers ’09 or higher.

JaxJason has posted another great – and highly useful – template in the forums. It is a “strip style” calendar like you would attach to the bottom of your monitor. I had one of these years ago and had forgotten how useful they were.

I have just printed mine out, and it is now firmly affixed to my monitor!

Here is how Jason describes his motivation for the project:

My office used to provide us with “strip calendars” that had sticky on the back and affixed nicely to the monitors. These were great and we didn’t’ realize how much we relied upon their ease of use and nice visibility until they announced they were not going to be supplying these again this year. So I made this template up.

Format the table as you see fit, adding logos, etc.. Have fun with it.

Instructions:

You can change the year on the “Data-Set Year Here” tab, and the Print me tab will adjust.

It normally prints much better on legal size paper (US) on a laser printer.

Jason included borders on the rows above and below as cutting lines when printing multiple strips.

How much is all the electrically powered junk around your house really costing you? Remember that you keep paying for appliances after you buy them through the energy they consume.

You can use a cool tool called the Kill-A-Watt to find out exactly how much electricity your appliances are using, and how much they are costing to operate.

Another method is to use this template (adapted from an Excel sheet here) to roughly calculate your energy consumption and costs.

Usage:

Plug in your cost per kilowatt-hour (you should be able to find this on your utility bill). According to to information I found on this page, the average cost per kilowatt-hour in the US is $0.115.

Then, enter the name of your appliances in the lower table, with their watts used per hour. If you can’t get the information from the appliance’s manual, you can get an approximate value from this online guide.

Next, enter the number of hours per day you use each item.

The sheet will then calculate the cost per year to operate the appliance.
